Locked in the Bathroom

This morning Christy and Joy got locked in the bathroom. It took 30 minutes for them to figure out how to get out. We are not sure exactly how it got locked but figure that Christy snapped it lock so fast it jammed.

After She and Joy figured out they were locked in they panicked and tried all the little manicure tools to unscrew the screws on the doorknob. Unfortunately this did not work and they only succeeded in bending the filers and pushers.

All during this time they called to Clark and Cacey to help them and which they did for a while but then they refused, saying they locked themselves in, they can get themselves out. Cacey and Clark waited and watched to see what they would do.

Finally after half an hour, they opened the window leading to the outside (about ten feet from the ground) and Christy climbed out and jumped onto the air condition box, jumped to the
ground, ran and got a screwdriver, came back, climbed up the ladder (that Clark had by this time gotten) leading to the bathroom window, gave the screwdriver to Joy who instantly began unscrewing the screws on the doorknob and within minutes the door was open.

Cacey said she was wandering how long it would take those two dumb blondes before they thought about climbing out the window!

Joy with the broken knob....

The two who would not help...trying to look innocent

The two oldest girls...I can assure you they have their blonde moments too, even though they look very mature.

Christy standing on the air-condition box below the bathroom window (this all goes to prove that being a dumb blonde is not shown on one's exterior)

Later today....We love to take pictures with our matching shirts!

Sixth Anniversary?

Yes, today Caleb and Beth have been married for exactly 6 years!
We could not find any recent pictures of them together (except for the one below) and we have no way of hooking a scanner up to the computer right now for old pics so, we just put some individual new ones up of them and their kiddos (our nephew and niece)
Caleb on watch on board his ship...(two years ago!)

Katie is concentrating and Jed obviously finds something funny!

Easter Fun

We found this article on the net that explains all those controversies about Easter. You know, about exactly why we celebrate Easter with the Rabbit and eggs even though we all know that Easter wasn't invented because of the Rabbit and some eggs.

Most reasonably informed Christians are well aware that many of the traditions that surround the Christmas holidays have pagan origins and very little correlation with the actual events as recorded in the Bible. However, most of us are surprised when we discover that some of what we have been taught about “Easter” is not only in error, but deliberately so!

Many, of course, are aware that the name “Easter” actually originates with the pagan worship of Ishtar (or Astarte) that was traditionally observed at the time of the vernal equinox, nominally about March 21 or 22. Traditional pagan fertility symbols of both rabbits and eggs continue to be associated with this holiday.

However, the name as commonly used is also currently associated with the events surrounding the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which actually occurred on the Jewish Passover and is clearly defined in the Scriptures as the 14th of Nisan.

The Quartodeciman Controversy

It may come as a shock to learn that the early church deliberately committed to separating itself from the explicit record of Scripture. The practice of those Christians insisting on celebrating Passover on the fourteenth day of Nisan from the Old Testament calendar was known as Quartodecimanism (“fourteenism,” as derived from Latin).

It is nothing short of astonishing to discover that not only was this was a major emotional controversy within the early church, but that the commitment to deviate from the Scriptures was driven by a deep anti-Semitism!

The controversy surrounding this issue was a principal topic at the Council of Nicea in 325 a.d. Emperor Constantine presided over this council—note his own words:

It was, in the first place, declared improper to follow the custom of the Jews in the celebration of this holy festival, because their hands having been stained with crime, the minds of these wretched men are necessarily blinded ... Let us, then, have nothing in common with the Jews, who are our adversaries ... avoiding all contact with that evil way ... who, after having compassed the death of the Lord, being out of their minds, are guided not by sound reason, but by an unrestrained passion, wherever their innate madness carries them ... a people so utterly depraved ... Therefore, this irregularity must be corrected, in order that we may no more have any thing in common with those parricides and the murderers of our Lord ... no single point in common with the perjury of the Jews.

The early church father, Eusebius, also records Emperor Constantine as writing:

... it appeared an unworthy thing that in the celebration of this most holy feast we should follow the practice of the Jews, who have impiously defiled their hands with enormous sin, and are, therefore, deservedly afflicted with blindness of soul ... Let us then have nothing in common with the detestable Jewish crowd; for we have received from our Saviour a different way.

Setting a Date for Easter

The council unanimously ruled that the Easter festival should be celebrated throughout the Christian world on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox; and that if the full moon should occur on a Sunday, and thereby coincide with the Passover festival, Easter should be commemorated on the following Sunday. As a result of the Council of Nicea, and amended by numerous subsequent meetings, the formal church deliberately attempted to design a formula for “Easter” which would avoid any possibility of it falling on the Jewish Passover, even accidentally!

A principal astronomical problem involved was the discrepancy between the solar year and the lunar year, and thus, the Julian calendar then in use. Numerous alternatives for fixing the date of the feast were tried by the church but proved unsatisfactory, so Easter was celebrated on different dates in different parts of the world.

In 387, for example, the dates of Easter in France and Egypt were 35 days apart. About 465, the church adopted a system of calculation proposed by the astronomer Victorinus, who had been commissioned by Pope Hilarius to reform the calendar and fix the date of Easter. Elements of his method are still in use, although the Scythian monk Dionysius Exiguus made significant adjustments to the Easter cycle in the 6th century.

Refusal of the British and Celtic Christian churches to adopt the proposed changes led to a bitter dispute between them and Rome in the 7th century. Reform of the Julian calendar in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, through adoption of the Gregorian calendar, eliminated some of the difficulties in fixing the date of Easter and in arranging the ecclesiastical year. Since 1752, when the Gregorian calendar was also adopted in Great Britain and Ireland, Easter has been celebrated on the same day in the Western part of the Christian world.

The Eastern churches, however, which did not adopt the Gregorian calendar, commemorate Easter on a Sunday either preceding or following the date observed in the West. Occasionally the dates coincide; the most recent times were in 1865 and 1963.

In 1928 the British Parliament enacted a measure allowing the Church of England to commemorate Easter on the first Sunday after the second Saturday in April. Despite these steps toward a consolidation, Easter continues to be a “movable” feast.

In the church’s zeal to separate itself from the Biblical text, confusion has continued.

Pretty good article huh? well, we did an easter egg hunt anyway.....us older girls even got a special little egg with a present in it from mom.

starting on the hunt!

yes!

After they found most of the treats....

Instead of just coloring their eggs Clark and Jill put some gold paint on them. This made the eggs exceptionally bright and pretty.

Saint Patrick

I am Patrick, yes a sinner and indeed untaught; yet I am established here in Ireland where I profess myself bishop. I am certain in my heart that "all that I am," I have received from God . . . . . .

The image “http://www.obriensirishcottage.com/uploaded/images/St_Patricks_Day/St_Patrick-banising_snakes-Large.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

. . . . So I live among barbarous tribes, a stranger and exile for the love of God. He himself testifies that this is so. I never would have wanted these harsh words to spill from my mouth; I am not in the habit of speaking so sharply. Yet now I am driven by the zeal of God, Christ's truth has aroused me. I speak out too for love of my neighbors who are my only sons; for them I gave up my home country, my parents and even pushing my own life to the brink of death. If I have any worth, it is to live my life for God so as to teach these peoples; even though some of them still look down on me.
~St. Patrick~

St. Patrick was born in Britain around 440 AD. Late in his childhood, he was captured by Irish raiders and taken to be a slave. His faith, which was not very strong until that point, was bolstered during his enslavement. He escaped when he was 22, and went to live in a monastery in Britain. However, he had a vision in which voices told him that it was his mission to go back to Ireland. He departed for Ireland after reasoning and fighting within himself for he did not have the faith or courage to go back to the country that had enslaved him.

Thus, it was, he became one of the first Christian missionaries to go to Ireland. His mission was largely successful, and he set up many churches and schools there. He converted many people to Christianity. He also expected that he could be killed or imprisoned at any time for trying to convert people to Christianity. St. Patrick is said to have driven the snakes out of Ireland. This is a metaphor for driving out the druids and pagans, which Patrick did by converting people to Christianity. There never were any real snakes on Ireland, however, the metaphor stuck.

Would You Believe It?

If we told you this female (?) attorney is trying to steal our Grandmother's estate right out from under our noses, would you believe us? We grandchildren have decided we won't let it go without a fight;

On our first meeting, she ordered us six kids to take her fat, rather sick looking dog for a walk. When we refused she threatened us with disinheritance from the family estate.

We served her a subpoena and afterward took these pictures (for proof of service), this attorney turned to me and said, "Give me that camera. I want that camera. I want that picture."

The camera is a little digital camera. She has been fleecing my grandmother through legal fees and now she wanted my camera too! I decided she could not have mine - she had to buy her own and hopefully not with grandma's money. She said the law said she could take our camera. But, we knew we could not give her our camera because then our blog would go away.

We thought - We can't give you the picture because it is digital. We can send her a copy of the picture through the email although we did not think the picture was so great.

( Is this amazing?)

This is the process server Jen before she went into the office
to serve the subpoena to the attorney
(Cacey took the picture and Christy was there to supervise - like Charlie's Angels)

The attorney's face after we handed her the subpoena; the one who demanded our camera!

Samuel Adams

"Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you . . ."
Samuel Adams

Samuel Adams was a passionate man who used expressive words to describe the situation in Post-Revolutionary days. Well, did he say: "Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason."

Here is one of our favorite quotes by him.

“Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say 'what should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!"

Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, and See No Evil

This was in December when we were at Sea World....And this is the fun ride we did five times.
Every time you take this ride they take a picture of your boat and you can go look at yourself on their computers afterwards............. we all thought Clark and Jill's faces looked like goofy chipmunks.

Garret is on the right, and has a blue shirt on and Meredith who is his little sister is standing right in front of him. Their Dad is in the middle and Clark and Jill are in the back.

They live higher up than us and so they get about twice as much snow. After they all bowled they came back to their house and the kids played in the snow. Thanks for giving such a nice birthday party guys!

All ready for cake and presents. Clark and Jill told me when they came home they had a wonderful time........

but maybe it was because they scored high on bowling?
