The Still Small Voice . . .

Be still. . .

. . . and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.
~Psalm 46:10~

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. He shall cover me with His feathers, and under His wings will I trust: His truth shall be my shield and buckler. A thousand shall fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand; Because I have made the LORD, which is my Refuge, even the most High, my Habitation; He shall give His angels charge over me, to keep me in all my ways.

Because you have set your love upon Me, therefore will I deliver you: I will set you on high, because you do know My Name. You shall call upon Me, and I will answer you: I will be with you in trouble; I will deliver you, and honour you. With long life will I satisfy you, and shew you My Salvation . . .

~Psalm 91~ (paraphrase)

Behold, the word of the LORD came to him [Elijah], and He said unto him,

What doest thou here, Elijah?

And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down Thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

And He said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.

And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind:

And after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire:

And after the fire a . . .

still small voice.

And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave.

And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said . . .

What doest thou here, Elijah?

And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down Thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

And the LORD said unto him,
Go, return on thy way . . .

Yet I have left Me seven thousand in Israel,
all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal,
and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

~I Kings 19:9-18~
